Mixed Media sampler

I created this sampler for a class, it has many different materials, techniques and colors.

The whole thing is created on muslin with a layer of wonder under between the pieces as well as a layer of organza.

The support is given by ribbon and wooden sticks that I painted with acrylic paint.

I had fun working on this project.

Close up of first half front view

The first panel was made by having a piece of fabric paper (I made it with felt, paper, gel medium, acrylic paint, and gold leaf) as the background, then a piece of friendly plastic over a small piece of velvet and a few brads spelling the word "shine"

The second panel was a piece of silk colored with some watercolor paint, then stamped with black archival ink and the sun in the middle was done by using stencil and pebeo, once it was heated up, finished and cooled down, I rubbed some acrylic paint around it to make it more intense.

The last panel was made by using Claudine Hellmuth's Vaseline resist technique, a few acrylic paints and stamping an image with archival paint.

In these last 3 panels I used rubber stamps and foam stamps to create the designs.

for the first one (left to right) I colored a piece of card stock using acrylic paints, I then randomly stitched with a sewing machine, a piece of muslin previously painted with some lumieres and water, applied gel medium to the center of the piece, some UTEE (gold) and stamped a fleur de lis with some "embossing ink" just to be able to release the stamp easily. I then rubbed some purple acrylic paint on the top.

On the second panel, I used rinse away paper wet over a foam stamp, let it dry overnight and colored and stitched over fabric the next day.

The third and final panel is nothing but a piece of friendly plastic stamped and inked, glued to a piece of paper colored with acrylic paints and stitched.

I colored the material with different Adirondack paint dabbers and stamped them away using my bandana stamps for the back side of my project.

I stamped using ink and paint and after all of it was dried I sprayed the whole back with water and perfect pearls.

Bandana Mania

Ever since I started to be addicted to "bandana everything", my kids started to wear bandanas too!
In this layout I used the wrinkle free distress technique over a plain white piece of cardstock. When I was pleased with the colors I sprayed the whole page with gold perfect pearls and water.
Glued my photos and stamped away.

Layout using crackle paint

I added red mahogany and spiced marmalade distress crackle paint to this layout, mainly around the edges and on top of the curly embellishments made out of cardstock with a cuttle bug die cut. The big swirl is a piece of many elements made out of chipboard by Technique Tuesday.
I was very pleased with the look.

Star Book

Star Book

Star Book

I made this pretty book for a class, I used some kind of bluish-green cardstock from bazzil and everything else is just a plain piece of white cardstock that I colored and stamped myself.

Top View of flag book

Flag Book with my stamps and The bandana technqiue

I made this book for a class project.

The base of the book is poster board that I got at the Hobby Lobby, I then used PLAIN white cardstock that I myself colored and tinted to look the way it does.

I then cut lots of little flags that I stamped myself.

I wanted to make something with a Valentine Day's theme so this is a sample.

Key Holder plaque

This is a very easy and fun project where I used Distress crackle paint, acrylic dabbers and the basic concept of the bandana technique.

NOEL coasters

The coasters are based on a ceramic shape and finished with an acrylic coat that allow the color to remain true during its constant use, they are easily cleaned with a moist cloth

Tissue Box Cover

I combined the learned real bandana technique with some always elegant perfect pearls and I was very pleased with the results.

I finished my box cover with a coat of Golden gloss finish varnish that will protect both, the color and the integrity of the structure.

I noticed that the use of perfect pearls gave this box a very nice finish of sophistication.

Girly Girl lamp shade

I created this fun lamp shade for my daughter, the whole process was very easy and virtually mess free! I used the Adirondack acrylic dabbers from ranger Inks and some fun marabou boa.

Robin Beam

Robin Beam is not only a super talented person, she is a very warm and kind girl that enjoys sharing her time and experience with many of us that get lucky enough to get that chance in life.

She has many of her art pieces published in different books and magazines, she is the Director of Education at Ranger Industries, she is an artist, a sweet aunt, a loyal sister, a cat lover and a big hearted gal that enjoys life one art project at a time.

She works hard !....and she is the one that puts this thing together for us to learn! You go girl!.....many of us, and I mean MANY...admire you!

She has also created a technique that we call "bandana"...it is marvelous and unique, and with that technique in mind, I have created my newest rubber stamp collection, I will post the images as soon as I can!

Certification Project

We worked on a wooden frame, I decided to cover the entire surface with red pepper color wash, I then placed a "swirly" stencil I made with cardstock right on top of the wash and applied a coat of distress crackle paint in spiced marmalade...it was an uneven coat and my idea was just to cover some of the areas but definitely define the shape of the stencil.

The distress crackle paint dries fast...if one applies it thin, one gets tiny little cracks, and if instead we go for a thicker coat, big cracks will surface !....oh I just love it!

I then painted some mosaic like pieces of chip board using ink dabbers, I used butterscotch, black and red pepper...I stamped in some of them with a text stamp and using acrylic paint from the dabbers to make it look real opaque, in some other mosaics I traced a little piece of the stencil I had cut out myself...ended up looking like some kind of animal print!...and I liked it!

I decided to cover some of the designs on my frame, with a layer of glossy accents, and outline a little bit of the swirl stencil with dimensional pearls.

I was very satisfied with my results...by the way!....the actual project doesn't have a photo in the center, it has a mirror!, but Robin emailed me this photo and I thought it was too cute not to share.

Receiving my diploma

I got to receive my diploma from Tim Holtz and Robin beam, this makes me a certifiable and professional instructor that can teach any of the techniques studied, wherever I have the opportunity to do it.

I'm currently working on finishing my studio and be able to continue with the classes ...I can't wait to be able to teach all I learned and apply the knowledge to my own projects.

Embossing powders, Inks and paints certification

This was a wonderful workshop at the Ranger headquarters, it was just so much fun!

We learned 45 new techniques that can be easily adapted when scrapbooking, card making, or any mixed media project!

We were the first generation of students that got to learn techniques with the newest Ranger products such as the out of this world distress crackle paint, the super versatile paint dabbers and the very underestimated and amazing dimensional pearls. This workshop is created to prepare us instructors to teach all the different uses and applications for the products this company sells...and of course Robin beam is the master mind behind this event, and the one and only Tim Holtz walked us step by step through the different techniques we were able to learn about.

Perfect pearl frame project

I created this super simple and elaborate looking picture frame by covering my mat board with a thick layer of white gesso (Golden) and stamping on it while still wet, using foam stamps.

Once when the impressions done on the gesso were totally dried, I sprayed the surface with a light mist of water and proceeded to "color" the frame with the beautiful colors from the aged patina set.

Perfect pearls certification

This is my final project during my Perfect pearls certification at Ranger Industries....it was so much fun!
We were provided with every single one of the beautiful colors in perfect pearls and a wood frame surrounding a mirror....each one of us was to use the knowledge learned during the workshop, and our own creativity...every single project was amazing!

At The Park

Talk about a hot day!

It was hot and humid, but that didn't stop us from having an amazing time at Fiesta Texas during August 2007.

Miss Dove

This will be the last year that Emilio attends to Casey Elementary....he has grown so much!

Emilio...he looks so much like his dad, but he is so much like me...now that might not be exactly a good thing since I tend to be oppinionated, impatient and a honestly a little bit selfish.

But....above all, he got my sense of humor...he's definitely the comediant, the actor and the center of the party.

Miss Dove is going to have her hands full with this young man in her class!

Good luck to you both!

Miss Sanchez

Eric-Eric-Eric.....he is so special, I mean all of my kids are special, but Eric is THE MIDDLE CHILD...now that has been a challenge for him and myself both!

He is a goofball, a sweetie, a caring dude, a cool dude, an impatient dude and I'm sure Miss Sanchez will experience more than she was in for when she became a teacher.

Good luck Eric...and definitely good luck Miss Sanchez!

Miss Fuentes!

Here we have Miss Tamara Fuentes, Veronica's pre-K teacher.
Luli was very-very excited to go to school, she didn't want to let go of her pink back pack and she was very comfortable on her first day at school.

First day of school 2007

This is the first time ever that my three kids go to school at the same time!...I'm sure there are other greater moments in their life but for Pete's sake this has been a day to remember in the story of my life.

It is awesome to reach the point where these little creatures one brought to this world and have been taking care of...reach a milestone of this kind...a little independance!

(the blank space was left that way for journaling)

girls just want to have fun!

This was one of the very first times we had a crop...and actually one of the very first times I attended one myself!

It was a blast!...all of us were having a very good time scrapping at sCRAFTbook Unlimited in Austin Texas...seems to me like we have a lot of creative gals over here!

Baking a cake

We decided to make a cake to eat first thing in the morning of Christmas day of 2006. Luli was very excited to be a helper and it was fun to see her little hands stirring the mix.

This is a layout that I like very much because instead of using stickers I used rubber stamps to create my own embellishments.

Emilio's getting braces

These are 2 of my favorite layouts ever, I don't know why but I just think that the whole thing came together very nicely as a composition.

He's doing good with his treatment as well.

H2O Fun

Water and more Water!

I have never been able to swim underwater...I float no matter what!...Emilio however, is a great swimmer since he was very young. These pictures were taken suring a summer that he spent in Virginia with his dad and his grandparents.

Pool Party

We all had a wonderful time at the pool party at the Martin's house during the summer of 2006.

The kids couldn't stay "dry", they stayed in that water the whole time we were there...as a matter of fact I think that this is about the only one thing my kids rather do other than eat!

She's bananas for the monkey!

When we went to Busch gardens during the summer of 2006, Luli was fascinated at all she saw and all she got to enjoy herself riding on different things all day long, but when she saw this girl sitting with a huge gorila (stuffed animal) she went crazy and wanted so bad to touch it.

I asked the girl if it was okay with her to have Luli's picture taken with the gorila, and when I took her photo, Luli softly touch that thing, hugged it, and looked at it as if it was a real gorila.

She herself is my favority monkey!

just silly me

Who am I? I'm a person, human, woman...blah-blah-blah.....if you must know details I'm kind of tall, kind of slender and "Hispanic".....born and raised in Monterrey, N.L. Mexico (ee-ha!) loved it, love it and will always do....the ethnicity was not important to me until I kept being asked on a daily basis "where are you from"....so then I discovered, I was from Monterrey and people cared!

I have three children, I have 4 cats, I'm an aspiring mixed media artist among being a passionate scrapbooker and will do the unimaginable with paints and inks if there are some rubber stamps around.
I owned a small mixed media store in Austin Texas until it became more painful than enjoyable, so I closed the shop and continued to design rubber stamps for my own small company STAMPART, continue to teach classes and experiment with stuff.

I'm a Ranger Inks certified instructor on Perfect pearls, Embossing powders, Inks and paints. I have a degree in Interior Design and a masters degree in Visual Merchandising.

Why did I name my blog art fragments?....I guess because I feel like my style is still developing, still in pieces, I try to incorporate a little bit of one thing into another, and maybe that's why the mixed media appeals so much to me.
